Our facility has incorporated secure, monitored door locks.  The locks are installed on fireproof doors and can only be opened from the outside with a door code supplied by CBSR or by over ride key.

- doors are able to be opened from the inside without the use of a code for fire escape purposes
- doors are "fire proof" and this locking system is approved for this type of door
- The mechanism stores 15 entries before overwriting the oldest entry
- It allows for 100 different users to be entered into the system
- The door codes are read every day (except Sunday) to track the user numbers who have accessed the area.
- it does not record the time that the access to the space occurred; we manage this by doing a read out of the access everyday and erasing the previous logs to give us an approximate 24 hour window. We can also tell approximately when someone accessed the lab by using the tech's user IDs and access as a point of reference.
- It only records successful access; it does not indicate failed attempts
- There is a key over ride for the system; only maintenance and security have these keys. Unfortunately there is no way to track access made in this manner except by the presence of security cameras in the lab.
- The reading of access can be done in 2 different ways: it can be read with an infrared handheld printer OR it can be accessed electronically with a cord for digital storage.
- There are three different LEDs on the door lock that behave in different manners based on the situation, these are easily decipherable.
- It is simple to program and remove various user numbers.
- When the batteries are getting low this is indicated to the operator by the green successful access LED flashing at a slower rate and a delay between the entry of the last digit and the disengaging of the lock.
- All access and codes are granted by CBSR with approval of PI/Dr. Ritchie.
- Codes are cancelled or removed following staff change or access level change
- Each door has its own set of people who are allowed access; only Techs, Bruce and Nic have codes.
- Each individual person has their own user number and code
- codes can be between 2 and 8 digits and are selected by the user however there are restrictions in place to prevent easily guessed numbers such as a phone number or 123456.
